Low-carbon ferrosilicon generally refers to with a carbon content of less than 0.04%. It is mainly used to produce non-oriented silicon steel.

The existing production method of special ferrosilicon or high-purity ferrosilicon is to inject molten ferrosilicon into the tundish, and then pass chlorine gas into the tundish. Due to the reaction of chlorine with carbon, titanium, calcium and other impurities, the ferrosilicon in the ferrosilicon is Carbon is reduced to less than 0.04%, titanium is reduced to 0.03-0.05%, and calcium is reduced to 0.05-0.07%. However, this kind of ferrosilicon cannot be used to produce high-grade non-oriented silicon steel because carbon is one of the main impurities that affects the electromagnetic properties of cold-rolled non-oriented silicon steel sheets.

If the carbon content is too high, when producing silicon steel sheets, in order to reduce the carbon content in the silicon steel, it is necessary to slow down the unit speed in the subsequent vacuum furnace decarburization annealing process and extend the decarburization annealing time, thus increasing production costs and affecting economic benefits.

Therefore, the lower the carbon content in low-carbon ferrosilicon, the better. However, if the carbon content requirement is too low, the production cost of ferrosilicon will increase. Therefore, considering the economic balance of the entire production, the carbon content in ultra-low carbon ferrosilicon used to produce high-grade non-oriented silicon steel is generally required to be below 0.015%. , preferably below 0.010%.
